On June 12, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed a landslide victory in a national election. Millions of Iranians claimed the vote was rigged, leading to deadly protests in Tehran.

Even if Iran is far away from Canada, Vancouver's young Iranian community has proved a real support for their friends and familly back home.

A rally which attracted 1,000 people was organized outside the Vancouver Convention Centre on Sunday.

Some protesters wore green to show support for the losing reformist candidate, Mir Hossein Mousavi.

“Most of us are here because of the (1979 Islamic) revolution. All the people you see on the streets in Iran are our age. If I had not left Iran, I would be on the streets and fighting for my rights.”, said Reza Sabour, the initiator of this rally. Reza Sabour, 29, moved to Vancouver from Iran in the ’80s.
